Job summary

National Grid plc in Massachusetts is seeking a Lead Engineer, Gas Asset Management and Engineering, to support Future of Heat projects in our service territory. You will lead NPAs assessment, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and help develop digital assessment tools.

The role emphasizes developing NPA processes, IEP software, decarbonization initiatives, regulatory filings and risk-based investment planning across gas assets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • 6+ years' experience in an engineering or technical role.
  • Experience with Synergi gas hydraulic modeling software or equivalent.
  • Preference for decarbonization tech experience (geothermal, renewable natural gas, hydrogen).
  • Experience developing long and short term investment plans using risk-based gas asset management principles.

  • Collaborate with gas and electric process owners to identify process enhancements for NPAs to gas infrastructure investments.
  • Assist the technical team with development of NPA and Integrated Energy Planning (IEP) software applications.

  • Support implementation of the company’s networked geothermal project and electrification demonstration program.
  • Provide engineering support for decarbonization efforts, including regulatory filings and research activities.

National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer, Gas Asset Management and Engineering, to support the identification and analysis of potential Future of Heat projects in our Massachusetts Service Territory.

Our Team

Our engineering team is responsible for ensuring we meet the regulatory compliance requirements for Non-Pipeline Alternative assessments and Integrated Energy Planning.

Job Purpose

The Lead Engineer supporting Future of Heat will focus on continuing to develop non-pipeline alternatives (NPA) assessment process, which will include continuing to develop digital assessment tools. The role will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders in creating, developing and implementing Future of Heat strategy and roadmap, aligning with organization goals.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with current gas and electric process owners to lead identification of process enhancements to evaluate NPAs to gas infrastructure investments
  • Assist the technical team with program support in the continued development of NPA and Integrated Energy Planning (IEP) software applications
  • Team lead in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to implement NPA frameworks, establish IEP best practices and other future of heat initiatives
  • Support implementation of the Company’s networked geothermal project and targeted electrification demonstration program
  • Provide engineering support for the Company’s decarbonization efforts, which includes regulatory filings, white paper collaboration and research activities
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline required.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in an engineering or technical role required.
  • previous gas planning experience utilizing Synergi gas hydraulic modeling software or equivalent
  • preferably have previous experience or training with decarbonization technologies such as geothermal heating systems, renewable natural gas projects or hydrogen engineering projects.
  • previous experience developing long and short term investment plans using risk-based gas asset management principles.
  • communication skills, written skills and strong computer skills, proficiency with MS Office Suite required and preference for experience with utility work management systems, advanced SQL queries and data models, advanced Python skills and managing large-scale data systems across cloud and enterprise platforms
  • A valid Driver's license required.

$138,000 - $162,000 a year

National Grid will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future. You must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.
