Job summary

Jobtailor in Boston seeks a senior Engineering Manager to supervise, coach and develop engineers, guiding distribution system projects across the local territory. You will review work, approve time and ensure quality while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and reviews work for quality.
  • Directs work of multiple engineers or designer as stated.
  • Oversees all types of distribution systems within the local territory the lead is assigned to.
  • Responsible for the cost and performance of assets; conducts reliability analysis and monitors equipment condition.
  • Develops, justifies and approves Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon.
  • Ensures that design and specification of additions/replacements to transmission and distribution systems, and permits, are completed accurately and on time.
  • Develops preliminary engineering designs as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other Engineers to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Provides technical support and direction during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Responsible for technology and equipment evaluation and selection.
  • Develops standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.
  • Assumes the role of the Manager as required.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and reviews work for quality.
  • Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Engineers or 1 FTE Engineer and 1 FTE Designer.
  • Responsible for overseeing all types of distribution systems within the local territory the lead is assigned to.
  • Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system which may include reliability analysis and trending of system events and monitoring of equipment condition.
  • Responsible for the development, justification and approval of the Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects.
  • Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system electrical permits and related customer notifications, are completed accurately and on time.
  • Responsible for the development of preliminary engineering designs and the details, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root‑cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
  • Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.
  • Assumes the role of the Manager as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.
  • Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.
  • Familiarity with power‑related software is preferred.
