Job summary

Loudoun County Public Schools seeks a Lead Endpoint Engineer in Leesburg, VA to own and advance enterprise endpoint management practices. The role includes software distribution, patching, antivirus, and desktop virtualization across a 15,000 staff and 80,000+ students environment.

You will mentor Endpoint Engineers, lead new projects, and collaborate with both technical and non-technical staff to design, deploy, and optimize core infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years full-time work experience in information technology, preferably endpoint management.
  • Mastery in at least one and experience in at least two endpoint management or infrastructure services, including Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Autopilot, SCCM, Google Workspace, AWS, Ivanti, JAMF, VMWare, Dizzion FRAME, AD, BeyondTrust, Radix MDM.
  • Experience in at least two major operating systems (Windows, macOS, iPadOS, ChromeOS) and in OS configuration and deployment.
  • Leadership or management skills are expected; this is a Lead role, not purely a management position.
  • Scripting experience using PowerShell, VBScript, or Command Shell.

Responsibilities

  • Owns several technology services within LCPS, including software distribution, OS patching, antivirus, deployments, imaging, testing, licensing, and device configuration.
  • Mentors, coaches, and leads new projects and initiatives for Endpoint Engineers and Specialists.
  • Acts as liaison to Endpoint Supervisor and escalates concerns as needed.
  • Documents processes and procedures for Endpoint Management missions.
  • Designs and deploys new systems and enhances existing ones; measures effectiveness and plans improvements.
  • Provides guidance to technical staff and ensures high-quality service to staff and students.

Job Overview

The Lead Endpoint Engineer will play a critical role as a technology service owner within the Department of Digital Information Infrastructure and Engineering team. A Lead Endpoint Engineer is a jack-of-all-trades regarding endpoint management and utilizes their skills, experience, and talent to recommend, design, implement, and support next generation technologies across the enterprise. Lead Endpoint Engineers also provide mentorship and coaching to Endpoint Engineers and Specialists as required. The position serves as a primary technology service owner responsible for enterprise endpoint management practices including software distribution, OS and Application patching, antivirus, application deployments, desktop virtualization, device provisioning, application testing, license management, and device configuration. These technologies support a dynamic learning environment that empowers 15,000 staff to deliver a world class education for 80,000+ students.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Principally owns several technology services within LCPS that includes software distribution, OS and Application patching, antivirus, application deployments, device imaging, application testing, desktop virtualization, cloud service management, and device configuration
  • Provides mentorship, coaching, and training to Endpoint Engineers and Specialists and take lead on new projects and initiatives
  • Escalates concerns to the Endpoint Management Team and acts as a direct liaison to Endpoint Supervisor
  • Documents the processes and procedures as related to the mission of Endpoint Management
  • Develops strategies and collaborates with technical and non-technical staff on core infrastructure projects
  • Designs and deploys new systems and enhancements to existing systems
  • Measures effectiveness of existing core infrastructure systems and strategically design and implements improvements
  • Monitors and tests system performance to include the delivery of statistics and reports
  • Manages projects and reports status updates to senior leadership on a regular basis
  • Provides guidance to other technical staff
  • Solves complex engineering issues while working collaboratively with other departments in a team first approach
  • Resolves issues by applying outstanding communication, analytical, technical, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to ensure all systems operate effectively and efficiently to maximize education opportunities for students
  • Provides excellent customer service to both external and internal customers
Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field

Experience

Five (5) years full-time work experience in information technology, preferably endpoint management Mastery in at least one and experience in at least two endpoint management or infrastructure services, including (but not limited to): Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Autopilot, Microsoft SCCM, Google Workspace, Amazon Web Services, Ivanti Endpoint Manager, JAMF, VMWare Workstation, Dizzion FRAME, Active Directory, BeyondTrust, Radix MDM

Experience in at least two major operating systems, including Windows, macOS, iPadOS, or ChromeOS Experience in operating system configuration and deployment

Experience supporting large enterprise environments and large fleets of endpoints

Prior experience supporting a K-12 environment is highly desirable, with an understanding of the unique IT support needs and challenges in this environment

Prior leadership or management skills. This is not a management position, but as a Lead, it is expected to set an example for the team

Scripting experience using PowerShell, VBScript, or Command Shell
