Job summary

Zone 5 Technologies in Fort Walton Beach, FL seeks an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to develop software for embedded microcontrollers in unmanned aircraft systems. You will design, code, and test real-time software, integrate sensors and processors, and lead new projects with a focus on reliability and safety.

Strong background in C/C++, VxWorks/FreeRTOS, MATLAB/Simulink, and sensor systems is required, plus mentoring skills.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, or related field.
12+ years of embedded real-time software experience in avionics, automotive, or similar safety-critical systems.
Strong experience with real-time OS such as VxWorks or FreeRTOS.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring in high-performing teams.
Expert in C/C++ in a real-time embedded environment.
Experience with flight, avionics, or sensor-driven systems.
Understanding of GPS, IMU, and navigational constructs.
Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
Experience with CAN bus, SPI, 1553, RS485, and serial protocols.
Ability to read hardware schematics and firmware for devices.
Experience debugging with oscilloscopes/logic analyzers and testing procedures.

Responsibilities

Design, code, and implement software for embedded devices and test in flight environments.
Write and test software to integrate sensors and processors into aircraft components.
Lead development and planning of new projects and programs.
Debug, troubleshoot, and isolate software issues.
Read schematics and use debugging equipment like oscilloscope/logic analyzer.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality systems.
Mentor less-senior teammates to help them grow.
