Job summary

Altus Technology Solutions LLC in St. Inigoes, MD is seeking a Lead Electrostatic Spray Painter for day shift.

The role involves applying coatings to aircraft and related components, reading engineering drawings, and performing fabrication tasks in a controlled coating facility. Qualified candidates will have 3+ years of experience, an active DoD Secret clearance, and the ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

• Active DoD SECRET clearance (interim acceptable) required.
• 3+ years experience in preparing, priming, painting, and coating various surfaces.
• Must be able to read engineering drawings and follow data sheets.
• Maryland Driver’s License required.
• Experience with coatings and paint booth operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces and apply aircraft, aerospace, general, and/or powder coatings per specs.
• Operate coating operations in a controlled facility and paint booth with PPE.
• Identify and select coating equipment based on designs.
• Ensure adequate coating materials in compliance with regulations.
• Work as a productive member of a project team.
• Fabricate and modify items and structures for test articles as needed.
• Follow blueprints, drawings, plans and technical publications.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment and safety standards.

Altus specializes in delivering comprehensive engineering, prototyping, testing, and production capabilities, including design, fabrication, assembly, and compliance support to our Government customers. The Painter will be responsible for performing fabrication and coating assignments of substantial variety and complexity on project articles, support structures, and equipment.

We are looking for an individual that can use their Painter experience to add value and make a significant impact as a Painter to NAVAIR for this opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces and apply aircraft, aerospace, general, and/or powder coatings according to item design engineering specifications.
• Perform coating operations within an environmentally controlled coating facility and “paint booth” while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Identify and select appropriate coating application equipment based on design specifications.
• Ensure on-hand quantities of required coating materials in compliance with state, federal, and DoD/DoN HAZMAT regulations.
• Perform as a member of a project work team.
• Fabricate unconventional, one-of-a-kind items, systems, apparatus, and support structures for experimental project test articles.
• Plan and conduct work from blueprints, drawings, plans, and technical publications.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
• Follow and enforce all safety standards within the Coating Facility.
• Work well with others as part of a team.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on assigned machines.
• Maintain tool inventories and procure equipment, supplies, tools, and consumables as required.
• Perform other tasks as required to support customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Active U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (Must have interim clearance before start date)
• Must possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License
• High School Diploma or equivalent. Formal trade school, college, or military training school highly desired.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in preparing, priming, painting, and coating various surfaces, including aluminum, steel, and composites.
• Must be able to read engineering drawings
• Must be able to follow Technical Data Sheets and Safety Data Sheets
• Must be able to follow and help establish workflows
• Formal paint and final finish training, aircraft or otherwise, desired.
• Fabrication and mechanical repair/assembly experience highly desired.
• Skilled with precision hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, program requirements, and material coating specifications.
• Experience with various types of coating applications, tools, and equipment, including paint booth operations.
• Capable of developing modifications to satisfy program requirements without jeopardizing safety of operations.
• Ability to work tactfully with professional engineers, technicians, and management staff on all levels of effort.
• Exceptional customer service required.
• Prior forklift and/or overhead crane experience is a plus.
