Job summary

University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) is seeking an experienced Lead Electrician to oversee and coordinate campus-wide electrical projects, including tenant improvements and deferred maintenance. Qualifications

• Detailed knowledge of all aspects of the electrical trade and related codes sufficient to direct work, evaluate progress and ensure craft work assignments meet stated standards.
• Working knowledge of construction trade practices and safety requirements sufficient to oversee repair/renovation work, prepare multi-craft estimates, work scopes, budgets and schedules; address delays and bring to closure within timeframes.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, CEC, OSHA safety rules, CA Titles 19 22 24, ADA, Joint Commissions and OSHPD.
• Understanding of power distribution equipment, motor control systems, and protective relaying; familiarity with computerized facilities maintenance software.
• Ability to use power/hand tools and testing equipment; troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
• Ability to oversee training and orientation for new hires and conduct safety training sessions.
• Ability to read project specs, blueprints, and technical manuals; communicate effectively.
• Ability to prioritize assignments and coordinate multi-crews; operate scheduling programs.
• Proficiency with PC and office software; program panels with manufacturer software.
• Ability to perform basic math for budgets and estimates.
• Knowledge of digital and analog electrical devices/systems.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Electrician Supervisor and or Manager for Electrical Shop, oversee and coordinate the work of the Electricians, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers who are responsible for campus-wide and Center for Health Sciences projects including fixed priced jobs for tenant improvement projects, deferred maintenance projects, periodic scheduled maintenance; trouble call issues, and support to all Project Managers for multi-craft projects. Review and coordinate daily schedules and work; interface with client. Conduct job site assessment and evaluation; develop and review estimates; resolve project problems, coordinate outages, and ensure job is closed and charged properly; participate in the Disaster Initial Response Team.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of: electromechanical systems and solid state controlled electrical devices; materials equipment and tools of the Electrician's trade; NFPA 72, NEC, and CEC, Occupational Safety and Health Administration general safety rules, equipment, and clothing and California Administrative Codes including Titles 19 22, and 24, ADA, Joint Commissions and OSHPD that may affect projects, their projected estimated costs, or personnel. (Required)
• Working knowledge of: various power distribution equipment, auxiliary equipment and motor control systems; basic electrical theory including AC/DC systems applications, and protective relaying; computerized facilities maintenance software. (Required)
• Ability to: use a variety of power or hand tools and electronic testing equipment; troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment for malfunctions, signs of damage, deterioration, or adjustment. (Required)
• Ability to oversee and coordinate the work of Electricians, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers in order to assist Supervisor with feedback, counseling and providing information for performance evaluations and provide training and orientation to new hires and conduct ongoing safety training sessions. (Required)
• Ability to: read work project specifications, blue prints, and technical trade related manuals; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude; use oral communications skills to obtain or convey accurate information. (Required)
• Demonstrated ability to: prioritize assignments, organizes work assignments of crew, and completes projects in a timely manner; manage and coordinate a computerized work scheduling program for multi-crews working on various projects simultaneously. Recent demonstrated ability to coordinate work with other construction trade. (Required)
• Ability to: use personal computer and standard office software such as Word, Excel etc. and the ability to program panels with manufacturer's supplied software. (Required)
• Ability to: perform basic math accurately and efficiently in order to maintain and monitor budgets of projects, review estimates, shop expenditures etc; consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position (Required)
• Skill in working with both digital and analog electrical devices/systems (i.e. microprocessors, programmable controllers, logic control devices). (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• Other Type of Degree Satisfactory completion of a certified 4-year apprenticeship or equivalent education and experience. (Required)
• Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
• Possession of a current California State General Electrician certification. (Required)
