Job description

This is an advanced skill supervisory position with some administrative responsibility in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures.

High school diploma or GED equivalent required and Training in electrician’s trade/Journeyman Electrical License.

5 years experience in the electrical trade or 3 years related experience with a related vocational training certificate One year in a supervisory capacity preferred.

• Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under vehicle insurance provider.
• Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical trade.
• Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade including high voltage electrical systems and equipment.
• Considerable knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity.
• Considerable knowledge of electrical blueprints and diagrams.
• Considerable knowledge of local electrical codes.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
• Capable of estimating costs of electrical materials and electrical projects.
• Ability to supervise a staff of journeyman electricians and trades helpers.
• Ability to install, repairs, maintains and alters a variety of electrical equipment and systems.
• Ability to locate defects in electrical equipment and systems.
• Skill in the diagnosis of electrical malfunctions.

• Receives and reviews all electrical assignments; reads and interprets blueprints, sketches and other written instructions; assigns manpower based on priority system.
• Prepares estimates for labor and materials for maintenance and construction work ranging from simple maintenance items to large remodeling jobs.
• Requisitions materials required for a variety of jobs; coordinates materials delivery to job sites; assures that all materials required are available.
• Plans, assigns and reviews the work of journeyman electricians and helpers.
• Participates, as required, in running conduits, pulling wire, installing circuits, repairing a wide variety of electrically operated equipment, and other electrical assignments.
• Prepares electrical schematic wiring diagrams for electrical projects; consults with engineering personnel regarding new construction and electrical load factors.
• Supervises the receiving of all materials; processes paperwork to assure that materials are accounted against a specific job; maintains paperwork to account for all labor.
• Assures that equipment and tools needed for jobs are available at job sites.
• Works closely with other department officials to develop work schedules based on labor/materials availability and established priorities; reports progress of jobs under way.
• Provides advice and assistance to subordinates in the use of shop equipment and power tools, and different work methods and procedures.
• Communicates and enforces established procedures, safety rules and regulations.
• Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and promotion of subordinates.
• Performs related work as required.
