Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Competent technical expertise across electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Familiarity with electrical basic topics and test instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified electrical and/or mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and prototype assemblies for products and proof-of-concept efforts
  • Build and integrate prototype mechanical, cable, electrical enclosure, and electro-mechanical assemblies from engineering drawings, sketches, or verbal direction; iterate rapidly based on engineer feedback
  • Support engineering with a variety of moderately complex engineering duties and/or hands-on tasks
  • Demonstrate competent technical expertise across both electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • Review project instructions, drawings, and specifications to ascertain test requirements, procedures, objectives, and to support design for manufacturability
  • Set up and conduct tests of units, components, and prototype hardware
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods
  • Operates and maintains FFF 3D printers, including model slicing/preparation, print parameter optimization, material selection, machine calibration, and routine maintenance
  • Mentor and coach less experienced technicians

Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineering Technician to support fast-paced product development, prototyping, and testing. This position is based out of our Bridgeton, MO facility and will have the option to work an in person or hybrid schedule. The ideal candidate will perform a blend of electrical engineering technician duties — such as circuit assembly, bench testing, and wire/cable fabrication — alongside mechanical engineering technician work, including building prototype assemblies, managing additive manufacturing (FFF 3D printing) workflows, performing part finishing, and preparing models using CAD tools such as CREO Parametric. Knowledge of CNC/spindle operation is a plus, as our 3D printing platform includes CNC milling capabilities. This role combines hands-on electrical and mechanical fabrication with digital design support and process planning to produce high-quality prototypes and proof-of-concept hardware on tight schedules.

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate competent technical expertise across both electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • Review project instructions, drawings, and specifications to ascertain test requirements, procedures, objectives, and to support design for manufacturability
  • Set up and conduct tests of units, components, and prototype hardware
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods
  • Provides and develops documentation to operate and maintain equipment
  • Comfortable working in a shop/laboratory environment and proficient with associated tools and equipment
  • Assists in design, building and/or procurement of new or improved machines, tools, fixtures and material handling equipment; coordinate their implementation
  • Responsible for completing process documentation, bill of materials, route sheets, etc.
  • Operate and maintain FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) 3D printers, including model slicing/preparation (e.g., Simplify3D, Orca Slicer, Inventor CAM), print parameter optimization, material selection, machine calibration, and routine maintenance
  • Able to work independently on a weekly basis with minimal supervision
  • Provides hands-on feedback to engineers regarding manufacturability, fit, and assembly concerns
  • Mentor and coach less experienced technicians
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrate competent technical expertise across both electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • Familiarity with electrical basic topics: voltage, resistance, power and use of electrical assets like DMMs, Power Supplies, Oscilloscope, etc.

Basic mechanical aptitude: able to identify hardware (screws, washers, nuts, etc), know how pieces of equipment mount together, able to mount parts in a box, etc.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of developing military vehicle electrical hardware, cable components and integration of hardware onto a military vehicle system a plus
  • Knowledge of using military grade components for cable design (Military grade connectors, shielding, environmental seals, backshells etc.) is a plus

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

The salary range for this position is $79,919.00/year- $103,895.00/year for the state of Illinois. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable.
