The Opportunity
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Function as a technical lead substation design engineer. Substation design encompasses distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission level voltage classes.
- Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design.
- Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings.
- Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- QA/QC projects and mentor junior engineers.
Client provides complete engineering, procurement, and construction services in areas such as:
- Substations
- Overhead Transmission Lines
- Underground Transmission Lines
- Renewables Integration
- HVDC/FACTs
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program recognized in your country or the country of practice.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle records search, as applicable by law.
Qualifications
- Substation Design experience in Physical and Protection & Controls (P&C).
- Project Lead experience, including leading teams as technical leader/SME and mentoring.
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control experience in substation design projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Drive for results, priority setting, planning, delegation, and directing others.
- Excellent conflict management, listening, and dealing with ambiguity skills.
- Ability to build effective teams.
- Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles, standards, and applicable codes.

- Stay current with departmental design guides, standards, codes, and client policies, applying knowledge independently.

- Apply knowledge and comply with client quality programs.
- Ensure project compliance and guide others.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
Engineering Production:
- Prepare complex engineering deliverables.
- Conduct research and recommend equipment/materials.
- Perform engineering calculations.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and quality.
- Evaluate and adapt engineering techniques and procedures.
- Review lower-level work and oversee data management and team leadership.
Project Coordination:
- Coordinate with internal and external teams on projects.
Client Focus:
- Identify and communicate client interests, support business development.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation, and Technology:
- Be recognized as a technical specialist and design complete projects within assigned practice areas.
People Management:
- Assist with performance management, mentoring, and training.
