Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in the US-CA area seeks an Associate Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design for utility installations, plant upgrades and redevelopments across sectors such as corporate, healthcare, airports and government campuses.

You will manage design teams, ensure quality, coordinate with project managers, and drive decarbonization and resilient energy solutions while developing client relationships and pursuing new opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam passed or equivalent.
• Master Degree in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years experience or 13 years with other path.
• PE license preferred.
• Expert knowledge in ANSI and IEEE standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading discipline design for large projects.
• Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Manage electrical design of projects from conceptual phase to design completion per project manager requirements.
• Apply expert knowledge of electrical concepts, codes and procedures.
• Provide non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
• Quality review drawings and project data in CAD software.
• Coordinate construction administration with field personnel.
• Lead field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
• Build relationships with clients and contractors and identify new business opportunities.
• Manage sales, marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
• Develop cost proposals and qualification statements to meet targets.
• Review project budgets and report performance.
• Provide leadership to the electrical engineering practice and ensure QA/QC adherence.

By joining our team, we’ll harness your expertise as an innovator and technical leader to develop strategies to solve our client’s challenging energy needs. The Associate Electrical Engineer will manage electrical design teams to create world-class designs for new utility installations, plant upgrades, and redevelopments for a variety of project types including distributed generation and microgrid projects for corporate, healthcare, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military campuses and facilities.

What you will do

• Manage electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
• Applies expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
• Applies expert knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
• Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
• Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems.
• Manage field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
• Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
• Manage sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
• Manage the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
• Quality review and approve project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
• Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the electrical engineering practice.
• Responsible for QA/QC process adherence and process improvement.
• Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.

• Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards. Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred.

Compensation

$220,000.00-315,000.00 Yearly
