Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join the office location listed. You will lead project teams delivering world-class electrical designs for new and retrofit projects across fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage facilities.

Responsibilities include directing design from concept to completion, reviewing drawings, and ensuring conformance with industry standards and client budgets. PE preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with 7 years EPC project experience.
  • Alternative: ABET-accredited degree + FE exam and 7 years EPC experience.
  • Master Degree in Electrical Engineering with 6 years EPC experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design of projects from conceptual through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for accuracy and standards.
  • Design electrical components per project requirements and schedules.
  • Apply knowledge of ANSI/IEEE standards in electrical design.
  • Research and compile project data for managers.
  • Use design software to perform calculations and plant designs.
  • Prepare information for client presentations and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections and measurements to support execution.
  • Act as field engineer on construction sites.

Description

Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking to hire an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer in the listed office location. The Power Division focuses on the design and construction of power generation facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage. Projects also include other types of heavy industrial facilities, such as decarbonization, mining, and gas compression. The project diversity offers a wide range of design and project execution experiences on both multi-discipline and electrical-only projects.

Engineered systems include the electrical interconnect to the bulk power grid and all auxiliary electric power equipment in the facility. Equipment includes rotating machines, such as generators and motors, solar photovoltaic panels, inverters, energy storage systems, such as batteries, large power transformers, generator circuit breakers, isolated phase bus duct, non-segregated phase bus duct, switchgear, motor control centers, small power transformers, variable frequency drives, station batteries, and UPS systems.

As a Lead Electrical Engineer, you will lead project teams to create world-class designs for both new and retrofit projects on a variety of projects. The Lead Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to client requirements, industry standards, and budget constraints.

Responsibilities to include:
  • Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Modify and review production drawings.

  • Design electrical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Apply strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.

  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

  • Efficiently utilize a number of design software tools to perform engineering calculations and physical plant designs.

  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.

  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations in support of project execution.

  • Act as a field engineer on construction sites.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years electrical engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred) required.

  • Or, Bachelor Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years electrical engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred) required.

  • Or, Master Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years electrical engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred) required.

  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Compensation

$150,000.00-230,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
