Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer for our Boston, MA office to design electrical systems for healthcare, life science, industrial and commercial projects. You will lead design efforts, coordinate with multi-discipline teams, and ensure adherence to codes and safety standards.

Responsibilities include power and emergency power design, lighting and life-safety systems, load calculations, and construction administration while mentoring junior engineers and assisting with business

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering.
  • 7-10 years of post-education experience in electrical design for facilities.
  • Professional engineering license preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical building design, codes and standards.
  • Experience with rehabilitation, renovation, or new design projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop drawings and specifications for architects, contractors and owners.
  • Coordinate design activities with multi-discipline teams.
  • Design electrical power and emergency power systems.
  • Design fire alarm and life safety systems.
  • Design lighting and lighting control systems.
  • Perform electrical load, short circuit and voltage drop calculations.
  • Provide construction administration services and attend meetings.
  • Mentor younger engineers and ensure safe, compliant project execution.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Electrical Engineer for our Boston, MA office.

Provides high level technical assistance and guidance for design of electrical systems including lighting, controls, fire alarm and power distribution for Healthcare, Life Science, Industrial, and Commercial scale projects in the public and private sector.

Your Impact
  • Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawings and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners
  • Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members
  • Design of electrical power and emergency power systems
  • Design of fire alarm and life safety systems
  • Design of lighting and lighting control systems
  • Scheduling and selection of electrical components and equipment
  • Perform electrical load, short circuit and voltage drop calculations
  • Construction administration phase services
  • Attend client and other stakeholder meetings
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner
  • Collaborate with owners, design professionals, and other stakeholders on business development opportunities.
  • Supervise and mentor our younger engineers
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering.
  • 7-10 of relevant post education experience as an engineer active in the design of electrical systems in industrial/pharmaceutical, laboratories, commercial, institutional/higher education, healthcare, or similar facilities.
  • A professional engineering license is preferred.
  • Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical building design.
  • Experience with electrical planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, renovation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • LEED AP Certification
  • Fundamentals of Engineering
  • Previous Healthcare, Industrial/Pharmaceutical, Commercial or Laboratory design experience

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $118,000- 175,230

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
