This position offers the opportunity to apply your expertise in protective relaying and control systems for HV and EHV substations. As a Project Lead, you will oversee an engineering and design team working on substation modifications and upgrades, including creating calculations, document designs, and specifications.
This role allows for a hybrid work schedule, combining in-office and remote work.
Responsibilities
- Prepare relaying philosophies, select relay, control, and communication equipment, and develop SCADA and telecommunication concepts.
- Guide junior and senior engineers in protection and controls engineering design efforts, coordinating detailed design phases.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve engineering issues.
- Design and analyze single line diagrams, relaying & metering diagrams, and control schematics.
- Prepare engineering studies for review.
- Review work by others, including calculations and drawings.
- Coordinate with project teams, clients, and vendors to ensure timely and complete designs.
- Assess existing facilities for upgrades, presenting findings and recommendations.
- Engage in peer-learning and mentorship within the company’s knowledge-sharing systems.
- Potentially travel for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification.
Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience
- BSEE with power systems or controls focus.
- 12+ years experience in protection/control/telecommunications for high voltage substations.
- PE license.
- Experience as a firm/client liaison in engineering roles.
- Proficiency in relay calculations and technical plan production.
- Familiarity with design tools like SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS, or similar.
- Knowledge of standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI.
- Experience with protective relay equipment from vendors like SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
- Excellent communication skills.
Valued but Not Required
- Experience with in-line, bus, equipment protection, SCADA, telemetering, and communications systems.
- AutoCAD or MicroStation skills.
- Construction and commissioning experience.
