Job summary

ROI - Workforce as a Service (WaaS) is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer in Houston to independently develop and analyze medium- and high-voltage power systems, and to supervise a full design team. You will interface with clients, suppliers, and constructors while ensuring high-quality design packages.

The role requires a BSEE from an ABET-approved university, 10+ years of experience, and substation expertise.

Qualifications

  • Leadership and supervision of a design team.
  • Expertise in electrical power systems and substations.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (ANSI, IEEE, NEC) and constructability.

Responsibilities

  • Create designs independently and produce conceptual designs.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers, designers and drafters.
  • Supervise a design team and manage client correspondence.
  • Specify major equipment (generators, transformers, breakers, switchgear).
  • Review electrical studies (power flow, short-circuit, arc-flash).
  • Ensure design packages meet quality and project requirements.

Job description

Our client is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm delivering end‑to‑end solutions across utility, renewable energy, battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other critical infrastructure markets. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, the organization applies deep subject‑matter expertise and an engineering‑led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium‑and‑high‑voltage electrical infrastructure for clients locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Lead Electrical Engineer independently develops, designs, and analyzes electrical power systems and substations. The engineer also supervises a full design team and provides full technical support to constructors, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and clients.

Reports to:

Director of Engineering, P.E.

Responsibilities
  • Creates designs independently
  • Produces conceptual designs and associated information
  • Provides technical guidance to engineers, designers and drafters
  • Provides supervision to a design team
  • Specifies major equipment such as generators, transformers, circuit breakers and switchgear
  • Controls quality of specified equipment and design packages
  • Supervises production of technical drawings such as one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, interconnection drawings, equipment arrangement plans, section views, grounding plans, conduit plans, cable tray plans and all associated installation details
  • Reviews or performs electrical studies such as power flow, short-circuit, device evaluation, device coordination, static and dynamic motor starting, harmonic analysis, ground grid analysis and arc-flash hazard assessment
  • Acts as a company representative and manages correspondence between clients, suppliers and coworkers
  • Takes ownership and responsibility with each project
Qualifications
  • BSEE from ABET approved university
  • 10+ years’ experience
  • Electrical substation experience required
  • Licensed as a professional engineer or 15+ years of experience
  • NCEES record a plus
  • Thorough understanding of industry standards and guidelines including ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, NESC, and others
  • Understanding constructability of design, field concepts, practices, and procedures
