Lead Electrical Engineer – MV Switchgear - Houston, TX
STQ Partners are currently working with an established industrial electrical engineering and manufacturing business that is expanding its engineering team in Houston.
The business delivers custom electrical power distribution and control equipment for industrial and energy-sector applications and is looking to appoint an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to support its growing project workload.
This is a hands-on engineering position with responsibility across medium-voltage switchgear design, electrical documentation, product development and manufacturing support, with the opportunity to take on increasing technical and leadership responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of electrical packages for medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution equipment
- Produce and review one-line, three-line, schematic, wiring and related engineering drawings
- Develop and release bills of material for purchasing and manufacturing
- Review project requirements, specifications and customer documentation and translate them into complete engineering packages
- Support product development, design modifications and design-for-manufacturing activities
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, purchasing and project teams
- Develop and maintain standard engineering designs, configurations and processes
- Work closely with mechanical engineering, project management and customers
- Mentor and support other engineers within the team
- Identify and communicate technical issues, project risks and potential solutions
Experience Required
- 10+ years' experience in medium-voltage switchgear design or a closely related discipline
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Strong understanding of switchgear, power distribution and electrical control systems
- Experience producing one-line and three-line diagrams, front elevations, schematics and wiring documentation
- Experience developing complete engineering/documentation packages from customer specifications
- Strong understanding of switchgear construction and internal wiring
- Knowledge of applicable ANSI, NEC and UL standards
- Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Previous experience mentoring engineers; team leadership experience is advantageous
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
