Job description

As the Lead Electrical Engineer, you will set the electrical standard for all project builds; owning the design quality, and engineering integrity across the organization's solar, battery, and DC fast charging infrastructure portfolio. You are the final technical authority on all electrical design decisions at and will define, document, and enforce the electrical standards that govern solar PV, battery energy storage, and DC fast charging systems.

Responsibilities
  • Build and manage a network of outsourced designers capable of producing complete, code-compliant plan sets
  • Set expectations, review and approve contractor work, and ensure every document that leaves the design pipeline is installation-ready and AHJ-approvable.
  • Support and lead the completion of full plan sets: single-line diagrams, site plans, interconnection drawings, and full permit packages.
  • Act as the licensed PE signatory on permitted projects.
  • Standardize DC Fast Charging Infrastructure at Scale; collaborate with our lead Master electrician to architect's DCFC electrical standards.
  • Design repeatable, scalable system configurations that can be deployed across markets without reinventing the wheel on every project.
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with the Commercial Energy Systems Designer and Lead Master Electrician to close the loop between design intent and field execution.
  • Own the technical specifications library—approved equipment lists, wiring standards, conduit fill tables, and labeling requirements.
Requirements
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in electrical engineering—active licensure required
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in solar PV, battery energy storage, or EV charging infrastructure, with demonstrated ownership of technical standards and plan set production
  • Proven ability to draft complete, permit-ready plan sets in AutoCAD—single-line diagrams, site layouts, interconnection packages, and full electrical drawings
  • Deep knowledge of the NEC, applicable IBC/fire codes, and utility interconnection requirements across major markets
  • Experience managing or directing design resources—you know how to set standards, review work critically, and hold partners accountable
  • High-agency operating style—you are comfortable building processes from scratch, making independent technical decisions, and moving fast in a scaling environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail paired with the ability to see the bigger picture and design systems that scale
Nice-to-haves
  • Multi-state PE licensure or active NCEES record enabling reciprocal licensure in key markets
  • Hands-on experience with utility-scale solar or megawatt-class battery storage system design
  • Familiarity with EVSE standards (SAE J1772, CHAdeMO, CCS) and DCFC infrastructure design requirements
  • Experience with Title 24, SGIP, or other California-specific energy code and incentive program requirements
