Brief Role Description
The Lead Electrical Distribution Engineer will report to the Manager of Distribution Engineering Services and collaborate with various EA departments. Responsibilities include providing project‑level electrical designs, reviewing contractor drawings, leading meetings with electrical equipment manufacturers, supporting testing and documentation of equipment, reviewing electrical sections of drawings and utility design packages, developing Electrify America design standards, and providing input on National Electrical Code requirements. The role also involves participating in permitting and utility meetings to explain charging plans and attending manufacturer briefings to communicate Electrify America’s electrical equipment performance, configuration, quality expectations, and NEC compliance needs.
Possible Tasks within this Role
Role Responsibilities
- Lead all electrical engineering needs for the Electrify America operations team, including designs, calculations, and documentation QA/QC, and support cross‑functional teams in implementing equipment for Electrify America, Canada, and commercial construction sites (20%).
- Work directly with Electrify America equipment providers on electrical components of hardware, including switchboards, battery energy storage systems, and charging equipment (10%).
- Provide dedicated support for the field team, project architects, and designers in construction drawing reviews (10%).
- Collaborate with Electrify America’s lab team for testing and documentation of charging and related equipment (10%).
- Design electrical sections of standard permitting sets for construction projects (10%).
- Assist in the development and implementation of National Design Standards (10%).
Additional Responsibilities
- Lead relationships with construction management firms, contractors, and sub‑contractors to ensure cost‑effective, high‑quality installations (5%).
- Lead the review of engineering, construction, and program‑level campaign contracts (5%).
- Provide critical technical input to purchasing and accounting for onboarding and implementing new engineering and construction vendors (5%).
- Manage electrical design elements of utility coordination to build strong relationships with electric utilities for rapid project energization (5%).
- Act as a subject‑matter expert for executives in providing technical and construction expertise, ensuring adherence to all design and construction standards and processes (5%).
- Travel as needed to oversee field‑team progress, document evidence of program progress, and enforce rigorous quality and safety controls (5%).
