Lead Electrical Construction Project Manager

This position is responsible for the overall management of all electrical construction functions and personnel, including but not limited to project bidding, planning, scheduling, resource allocation, project management, profitability, and safety, while providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with quality standards. Works within the guidelines, policies and mission of the organization and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects and personnel as assigned.

Directly manages and leads Project Managers. Assists indirectly with management of all electrical department personnel. Responsible for hiring, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

Essential Functions of Position
  • Manage and lead Electrical Construction Project Managers, Production Manager, and Project Supervisors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise field employees by assessing labor requirements, dispatching personnel to projects, and ensuring alignment with awarded jobs and customer deadlines. Coordinate staffing for service call coverage.
  • Proactively secure and maintain sufficient work for the team to achieve or exceed established billable hour and labor utilization targets, in coordination with leadership and project management.
  • Understand and apply all job‑related instructions, training materials, and technical documents, which are provided in English. Use of agreed‑upon translation methods or accommodation may be permitted to ensure safe and effective job performance.
  • Ability to reliably distinguish and identify standard electrical wire colors (e.g., black, red, blue, brown, white, gray, green, yellow) in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and safety regulations. This is considered an essential function of the position and must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Partner with Human Resources throughout the entire employee life cycle including but not limited to recruiting, onboarding, tracking employee performance, attendance, productivity, compliance, training, conformance with employment policies, disciplinary concerns, employee separations, etc., while ensuring that staffing aligns with project and operational demands.
  • Communicate employee concerns, complaints, or potential disciplinary matters to HR and administer counseling or corrective action as directed by the HR Manager.
  • Complete accurate employee performance reviews in a timely and constructive manner.
  • Foster a positive work environment. Motivate personnel to meet productivity goals and project deadlines.
  • Communicate, adhere to, and enforce company and customer policies and goals, including but not limited to health safety and employment policies.
  • Enforce compliance with current electrical codes, OSHA and MSHA regulations and standards.
  • Maintain and enforce a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information related to personnel, company operators, and customers.
  • Build and maintain effective communication and working relationships with employees, clients, vendors, suppliers, and external consultants.
  • Collect and compile the required information to assist with the development of customer bid proposals. Review job specifications and determine appropriate construction methods and resource needs.
  • Plan, schedule, organize, and direct project activities, ensuring workflow is efficient and aligned with deadlines and budgets.
  • Requisition necessary project supplies and obtain necessary permits and licenses in a timely manner.
  • Verify subcontractor agreements and confirm insurance compliance before work begins.
  • Interpret and communicate construction plans and contract terms to employees and clients.
  • Inspect and review work performed to ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, project specifications, company, customer, and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Complete and maintain accurate project documentation throughout all phases of construction.
  • Perform and report findings of periodic safety inspections of various job sites.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress, and cost tracking reports.
  • Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at job sites to ensure that proper procedures are carried out.
  • Take actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at site.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • Review contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure project documents are completed, recorded and maintained.
  • Perform physically demanding work as outlined in the job qualifications, including but not limited to lifting to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, crawling, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and/or adverse weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Work overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
  • Travel to job sites, which may include overnight stays, as needed.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of a state‑approved 4‑year Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship Program or degree from a technical college required.
  • Current state electrical license required. Journeyman or Master Electrician License preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Project Manager or Estimator on industrial electrical construction projects preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
