Job summary

Jabil is seeking a Lead Electrical CAD Engineer in Austin, TX (remote optional) to own electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring designs for mission-critical power and cooling platforms. You will ensure safety, compliance, and alignment with mechanical and PLM data throughout concept, NPI, production, and sustaining phases.

The role requires 8+ years in electrical CAD design, strong tool proficiency, and hands-on ownership of complex multi-variant designs with drift toward production

Qualifications

This role owns electrical design integrity across concept, NPI, production and sustaining phases, ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards, regional regulations and customer requirements.The position requires deep expertise in electrical CAD tools, strong understanding of industrial power and control systems, and close coordination with mechanical and PLM teams to maintain alignment between electrical designs, physical layouts and released product configurations; while supporting rapid, disciplined engineering change execution.Job Title : Lead Electrical CAD EngineerOrganization : Data Center Infrastructure TeamLocation : Austin, TX - or Remote ** Requires up to 25% domestic and/or international travel (rare)KEY RESPONSIBILITIESElectrical CAD Design & System IntegrationIndependently develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring designs for complex industrial systems using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical and/or Edge Electrical.Design and document power distribution, protection, grounding, and control circuits supporting power distribution and cooling platforms.Ensure electrical designs meet functional performance, safety, reliability and serviceability requirements across operating conditions.Resolve electrical packaging and integration challenges in coordination with mechanical layouts, thermal constraints and enclosure architectures .Configuration Aware Design & Lifecycle ExecutionExecute configuration controlled electrical designs supporting multiple product variants, options and regional variations.Maintain stability and traceability of electrical designs as engineering changes are introduced.Implement engineering changes (ECR/ECNs) efficiently while preserving compliance, backward compatibility and production continuity.Ensure accurate synchronization between schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs and PLM system records throughout the product lifecycle.Standards, Compliance & SafetyDesign electrical systems that are compliant with applicable IEC, UL and regional standards, as well as customer specific specifications.Apply sound engineering judgment to ensure electrical safety, fault protection, arc mitigation, grounding and clearance/creepage requirements.Support internal and external compliance activities by providing accurate documentation and responding to design related findings.Panel Layout, Wiring & Manufacturing SupportDevelop detailed panel layouts including component placement, wire routing and labeling aligned with mechanical constraints and thermal considerations.Ensure wiring designs are manufacturable, accessible and service-friendly, with clear documentation for production.Support prototype builds, production ramp up and manufacturing issue resolution through direct design updates and clarifications.Cross Functional Technical CollaborationCollaborate closely with mechanical engineering to ensure electrical mechanical fit, clearance, airflow and thermal compatibility.Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and production teams to address build issues, component substitutions and all feedback.Participate in technical design reviews and release readiness activities as a senior technical contributor.Contribute through execution to the continuous improvement of electrical CAD practices, documentation clarity and configuration discipline.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.8+ years of hands-on electrical CAD design experience with industrial or infrastructure class equipment.Strong proficiency in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical and/or Edge Electrical.Demonstrated experience designing power distribution and control systems for complex, multi-variant products.Working knowledge of IEC, UL, and regional electrical compliance requirements.Ability to independently execute and own complex electrical designs with minimal oversight.Preferred ExperienceElectrical design experience for power and cooling systems, switchgear, transformers, busway, PDCs, CDUs, chillers, or thermally intensive infrastructure.Experience with switchgear, control panels and industrial power systems.Proven background in panel layout, wire routing and electrical mechanical integration.Familiarity with PLM systems and formal product release and change control processes.Experience supporting both NPI and sustaining engineering in production environments.Core CompetenciesSenior level, hands on electrical CAD executionStrong configuration and documentation disciplineDeep understanding of electrical safety and complianceCross domain collaboration with mechanical and thermal engineeringHigh attention to detail under fast paced change conditionsIndependent technical ownership without managerial responsibilityAbout the Data Center Infrastructure (DCI) Team:The DCI team consists of technical subject matter experts who specialize in end-to-end large scale physical infrastructure that powers and enables modern data centers. This includes power distribution systems such as transformers, substations, generators, switchgear, switch panels, busways, ATS units, EDPM, BMS systems, and control panels, as well as cooling solutions ranging from traditional evaporative and indirect cooling systems to emerging liquid cooling technologies including chillers, heat exchangers, CDUs, pumps, and secondary fluid networks. The team also addresses the mechanical structures that house these systems - hot aisle containment, steel enclosures, blanking panels, cable trays, and fiber and networking infrastructure.The DCI team operates as a cross-industry center of excellence, partnering primarily with various cloud providers across the industry. Team members function as deeply technical subject matter experts who engage directly with customers and supply chain partners to assess requirements, identify challenges, and design infrastructure solutions end-to-end. The ideal contributor brings engineering-level expertise in either power or cooling disciplines, a working knowledge of the full infrastructure dependency chain, and the ability to translate that expertise into clear recommendations and collaborative problem-solving with both technical and business stakeholders.The pay range for this role is $100,100 - $180,200.
