Shield AI is seeking a mechanical design engineer focused on electric motors for advanced aircraft platforms. You will own motor designs, develop sub-systems, and ensure seamless integration with structure, power electronics and thermal systems.

The role requires hands-on testing, documentation, and collaboration with manufacturing to deliver robust motor products. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in motor design, a B.S.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of electric motors.
• Strong fundamentals in materials, mechanics, dynamics, thermal, DFM and tolerancing.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modeling and GD&T.
• Experience delivering motor products from design through production.
• Hands-on testing to verify performance and integration with power electronics.
• Experience NVH testing and prototyping.
• Collaborative and high-standard teammate.

Responsibilities

• Own the design of motors and other electric machines for X-BAT and other next gen aircraft.
• Design sub-systems and components including wound field and permanent magnet motors.
• Integrate designs with aircraft structure, power electronics and thermal systems.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings at sub-system level.
• Release work instructions and collaborate with manufacturing.
• Execute hands-on testing and full qualification on dyno and aircraft.
• Perform noise and vibration testing on motors and power electronics.
