Job summary

The Atlantic seeks an experienced editor for our newsletters team in New York City or Washington, D.C. The editor will oversee staff writers, shepherd stories end-to-end, and work with editors to brainstorm ideas, sharpen angles, edit, and craft effective headlines.

Ideal candidates bring a deep engagement with news analysis, essays, and reporting across topics, with a readiness to publish quickly and collaborate across desks. Night/early-morning/weekend work is expected at times.

Qualifications

• 10 years of editing experience.
• A stellar work ethic and exceptional time management.
• A magazine sensibility, with a passion for ideas-based journalism.
• An eagerness to collaborate and a sense of urgency to publish stories that guide the conversation.
• Knowledge of the current newsletter landscape is a plus.

Responsibilities

• We are seeking an experienced, nimble editor to join our newsletters team and oversee staff writers from start to finish.
• This person will work closely with other editors to suggest story ideas, sharpen angles, edit, and write vivid headlines.
• They will assist in the execution of special projects and have occasional opportunities to write.
