Job summary

Prospect Park Alliance, Inc. is seeking a Lead Gardener to oversee daily and seasonal landscape management in a designated zone of Prospect Park.

You will lead a team of gardeners, apply sustainable practices, and coordinate projects with the Landscape Management team to maintain ecological health and beauty while ensuring safety. The role requires 3–5 years in landscape management, supervisory experience, and a NYS driver's license; CDL preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in biology, ecology, forestry, natural resource management, fisheries-related field, or a certificate in horticulture.
• 3–5 years in landscape management and ecological restoration in a public park.
• 1 year of supervisory experience overseeing grounds crew.
• Valid NYS driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• Strong safety, teamwork, and public engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead restoration and maintenance of park landscapes using sustainable ecological practices.
• Oversee daily operations, set priorities, ensure safety and standards.
• Train staff on safe use of equipment and supervise tool maintenance.
• Coordinate volunteers and track contributions to projects.
• Document progress and complete quarterly zone surveys.
• Respond to emergencies and assist with events as needed.
