Job summary

Hole in the Wall Drywall Repair of Chicago Metro is hiring an experienced Lead Drywall Repair and Painting Technician. You’ll handle repairs, texture matching, Level 5 finishing, and professional painting on residential and light commercial projects.

You’ll lead, mentor and train junior technicians on job sites, troubleshoot issues, ensure quality workmanship and timely completion, and communicate with customers and the office to keep projects moving smoothly.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of drywall finishing and/or painting experience.
• Strong knowledge of drywall materials, tools and installation methods.
• Proven Level 5 finish skills: skim coating, surface prep, flawless final surfaces.
• Experienced texture matching across multiple texture types.
• Ability to assess repairs and recommend best‑practice solutions.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Fluent in reading and writing English.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be legally authorized to operate in Illinois.
• MVR: no DUI/DWI in past 5 years; no reckless driving past 3 years; no more than 1 moving violation in past 3 years; no at-fault accident past 5 years.
• Must safely operate company vehicle and pass driving record review.

• Communicate with customers and office staff in a timely manner.
• Manage materials and tools inventory.

You’ll handle repairs, texture matching, Level 5 finishing, and professional painting on residential and light commercial projects.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and delegate tasks to junior technicians on job sites
• Train junior technicians on proper techniques and safety
• Troubleshoot issues and provide solutions
• Responsible for managing to completion tasks as needed based on customer work order:
  • Drywall repair — small and large patches, crack repair, water‑damage restoration
  • Level 5 finishing — skim coating, surface prep, flawless final surfaces
  • Texture matching — orange peel, knockdown, hand textures, custom blends
  • Interior painting — brush, roll, spray, cut‑in work, color matching
• Ensure quality workmanship and project timelines meet customer needs and company standards
• Communicate with customers and office staff in a timely manner
• Manage materials and tools inventory
• Additional tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in drywall finishing and/or painting
• Strong knowledge of drywall materials, tools, and installation methods
• Proven ability to perform Level 5 finish work- skim coating, surface prep, flawless final surfaces
• Experienced texture matching skills across multiple texture types
• Ability to assess repairs and recommend best‑practice solutions
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
• Fluent in reading and writing English
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be legally authorized to operate a motor vehicle in Illinois
• Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company and commercial auto insurance requirements which can vary by vendor:
  • No DUI/DWI convictions within the past 5 years
  • No reckless driving convictions within the past 3 years
  • No more than 1 moving violation within the past 3 years
  • No more than 1 at-fault accident within the past 5 years
  • No current suspension or revocation of driving privileges
• Must be able to safely operate company-owned commercial vans and transport tools, materials, and equipment
• Employment involving company vehicle operation is contingent upon successful completion of a driving record review and approval under company insurance requirements
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment
