Job summary

Commercial Metals is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to diagnose, repair, and service equipment across our plants and yards. You will operate various mobile gear, follow safety protocols, and ensure DOT compliance while maintaining records and manifests.

The role requires at least 2 years of DOT experience, a clean MVR, and a high school diploma or GED. CDL is a plus. We offer training, advancement, and competitive compensation in a dynamic steel and construction environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform minor repairs and routine tasks safely.
• No on-road preventable accidents in the past 3 years per MVR.
• CDL with clean MVR is a plus; DOT compliance experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose malfunctions on equipment and perform repairs.
• Operate mobile equipment (loaders, forklifts, trucks, material handlers).
• Ensure all jobs are completed safely while in plant or garage areas and wearing PPE.
• Inspect vehicles for safety/operational defects using DOT checklists; ensure emergency equipment works.
• Comply with DOT/state inspection requirements and complete manifests and paperwork.
• Perform trailer maintenance including electrical, tires, brakes.

What You'll Do

• Diagnose malfunctions on equipment and perform repairs
• Operate the following mobile equipment: loaders, forklifts, trucks, material handlers and other various equipment to troubleshoot
• Ensure all jobs are completed in a proficient and safe manner when working within the plant and/or garage shop areas while wearing Personal Protective Equipment
• Ability to inspect vehicle(s) for any safety or operational defects using DOT, maintenance, and safety checklists and ensuring emergency equipment is in proper working order
• Comply with DOT and state inspection requirements
• Responsible to complete DOT manifests and paperwork
• Trailer maintenance including electrical, tire changing and brakes

What You'll Need

• Must be able to perform minor repairs and routine tasks efficiently, correctly, and safely
• Must keep clean and safe work area and comply with all plant specific rules, procedures, and duties
• Minimum 2 years previous DOT experience
• No on-road preventable accidents during the past 3 years as shown on the Motor Vehicle Road (MVR); accidents are reviewed by CMC Logistics
• Electrical troubleshooting and installation skills
• Brake certification
• Valid CDL with clean MVR is a plus

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
