A Brief Overview
Direct the functions of nutrition therapy services (such as nutrition assessment, nutrition counseling/consultation, performance improvement), and the management of the clinical nutrition team to ensure high quality nutritional care is provided to patients at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. Ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory agency compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Works with Nutrition Therapy Director to establish goals and oversee implementation of clinical nutrition care based upon facility’s medical direction and patient population.
  • Functions in a lead capacity, providing guidance, support, and direction to the department.
  • Oversees systems and processes to ensure the strategic and operational objectives are met.
  • Assesses the nutritional status of neonates/infants, pediatric, and adolescent patient through documentation in the medical record.
  • Participates in facility-wide and department Performance Improvement Program, and on Performance Improvement teams to improve processes and patient care.
  • Communicates effectively with all team members, patients and families through conferences, individual consultation and committee participation.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Food and Nutrition or
  • Master's Degree Dietetics required

Experience Qualifications

  • 3-5 years Registered dietitian

Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps of the process.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy, specifically related to pediatrics.
  • Thorough knowledge, application, and advancement of formularies for preterm, infant, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult, and metabolic and other disease specialty formulas.
  • Complex understanding and application of growth velocity and estimated needs for multiple age groups (premature, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, and adult) with differing growth rates to maximize medical nutrition therapy plan of care.
  • Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening, and observations.
  • Decision making, problem solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals and groups of people toward the accomplishment of work and organizational goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, public, hospital and medical staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units.
  • Ability to counsel and educate others.
  • General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Dietitian/Nutritionist Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Dietitians/Nutritionist Examiners
  • Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist - Commission on Dietetic Registration

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • Serves in a lead capacity for Nutrition Therapy associates within the facility.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, carrying, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
