Job summary

First Student is seeking a Lead Diesel Technician for our shop serving San Rafael School District. This full-time day shift (6 am–3 pm) offers union-based pay with a base hourly rate around $46.45, with potential increases for ASE School Bus tests.

Company-paid ASE and CDL training are provided, with strong career advancement opportunities across locations. The role emphasizes preventive maintenance leadership, team coaching, and ensuring safe, reliable bus performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance experience.
• Experience leading technicians or supervising a team preferred.
• Valid driver's license; willingness to obtain CDL with company training.
• Strong computer skills required for maintenance systems.
• Possess a mechanic's tool set; ASE certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs; perform road tests when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical, HVAC.
• Supervise shop technicians; conduct daily huddles, training, performance evaluations.
• Manage inventory control, expenses, and schedule fleet maintenance.
• Ensure safety compliance and adherence to regulations; participate in ASE program.
• Collaborate with management on maintenance status and special projects.
• Hands-on work as needed.
