Job summary

Hampton County is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair County-owned vehicles and equipment, including heavy-duty and light-duty trucks, emergency vehicles, heavy equipment, and small engines.

The role involves diagnosing, servicing, and repairing a wide range of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, keeping meticulous maintenance records, and responding to after-hours on-call repairs. Interaction with county staff and the public is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of diesel and gasoline engine repair experience.
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain fire apparatus, police vehicles, ambulances, graders, tractors, backhoes, generators, pumps, and small engines.
• Repair engines, brakes, hydraulics, transmissions, electrical and emission systems.
• Rebuild fire apparatus pumps and related equipment.
• Perform welding, fabrication, plumbing, and electrical work as needed.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
• Respond to after-hours and weekend on-call repairs.
• Interact with County staff, firefighters, vendors, and the public.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform physically demanding work
• Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work with hand and power tools
