Job summary

Clean Harbors in Portland, ME, is seeking a Lead Diesel Mechanic to oversee daily shop operations, supervise maintenance work, and ensure fleet DOT compliance. The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and adherence to procedures in a fast-paced environment.

The Lead Diesel Mechanic will manage preventive maintenance, conduct inspections, diagnose failures, and coordinate service calls. A strong background in diesel systems and team leadership is required for success in this role.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of diesel engine experience.
• 1+ years DOT inspection experience required.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Proficiency in electrical, computer, ECMs, fuel, air systems, ABS, hydraulic systems, engines etc.
• Proven repair and maintenance skills for heavy-duty units ( forklifts, trucks, tractors, tankers).
• Ability to pass a background, drug, and physical test on hire.

Responsibilities

• Ensures Health and Safety is the top priority and follows all safe work practices.
• Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs; conducts offsite road repairs as needed.
• Completes daily unit checklists for proper operation.
• Ensures daily maintenance tasks are done and communicates issues promptly.
• Submits paperwork for PM schedules and inspections.
• Conducts safety checks and annual vehicle inspections per laws.
• Keeps equipment parked in compliance with permit and DOT requirements.
• Maintains a clean work environment and supports management as needed.
