Base pay range

$37.00/hr - $45.00/hr

Gertens Family of Businesses is seeking a skilled Lead Diesel Mechanic to manage our shop and oversee other mechanics at our Inver Grove Heights Location. The lead mechanic will maintain and repair fleet vehicles and machinery, ensuring the functionality of machines, engines, and mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, and track Gertens operational and transportation equipment year-round.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, safety, and annual DOT inspections.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.
  • Work with various machines and tools, and direct staff for minor maintenance.
  • Assist with mobile emergency services for breakdowns.
  • Fill out work orders and manage parts and supplies.
  • Follow safety procedures to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe condition.
  • Rebuild, replace, or repair vehicle parts such as engines, brakes, and electrical assemblies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 1 year of diesel engine repair experience preferred.
  • Mechanical knowledge with 1 year preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license; Class A preferred.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform manual tasks for prolonged periods.
  • Visual acuity for close, distance, and depth perception.
  • Heavy lifting of 50+ lbs.
  • Exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other environmental factors.
