Job description

Why This Role Matters

This is not a desk-only supervisor role. Western Truck Exchange is hiring a hands‑on diesel foreman who can lead advanced diagnostics, direct workflow, coach technicians, and keep repair quality high across the shop.

You will be the senior technical resource on the floor. Your job is to help determine the correct repair path, assign work to the right technician, remove production delays, and make sure trucks are repaired correctly the first time.

You will have real authority over dispatch, repair quality, technician coaching, and staffing recommendations, with support from Service and Parts leadership to remove bottlenecks involving parts, approvals, tooling, scheduling, and technical support.

What You Will Own
Diagnostics and Technical Direction
  • Serve as the shop's senior diagnostic resource for diesel truck repairs.
  • Review incoming repair work, identify the likely repair path, and confirm next steps before work stalls.
  • Perform advanced diesel engine diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and driveability analysis.
  • Use OEM service information, diagnostic software, scan data, service history, and AI‑assisted diagnostic tools to improve root‑cause accuracy.
  • Step in when a technician needs a higher level of technical direction or when a job is not progressing correctly.
Shop Floor Leadership and Dispatch
  • Assign jobs based on technician skill level, workload, repair complexity, parts availability, and customer commitments.
  • Lead daily production conversations so technicians, advisors, and parts personnel understand the priorities for the day.
  • Monitor open repair orders, promised times, approvals, parts status, and delayed work throughout the day.
  • Walk the floor regularly to identify roadblocks early and keep production moving.
  • Communicate priority changes quickly when a job needs escalation, reassignment, rescheduling, or additional support.
Quality Control, Documentation, and Staffing
  • Review completed repair orders for accurate notes, confirmed repairs, and completed road tests when required.
  • Push for clear root‑cause documentation so future diagnostics, warranty support, and customer communication are stronger.
  • Enforce a no‑comeback repair mindset and redirect failed quality checks immediately.
  • Help recruit, interview, onboard, coach, and evaluate technicians.
  • Recommend staffing changes when needed so the shop has the right people to perform quality repairs.
What We Are Looking For
  • Valid Class A CDL, or willingness to obtain one while employed, so tractors can be road tested as needed.
  • 5+ years of medium‑duty or heavy‑duty truck repair experience.
  • Strong diesel diagnostic ability, technical judgment, and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to lead technicians without losing credibility on the shop floor.
  • Strong organization and communication skills with technicians, advisors, parts, and management.
  • Ability to speak Spanish fluently.
  • Ability to road test vehicles as needed to diagnose concerns and verify repairs.
Strongly Preferred
  • Dealership or fleet shop leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with OEM warranty processes and repair documentation standards.
  • Experience with CAT, Cummins, Allison, International, or Mitsubishi Fuso platforms.
  • Comfort using CDK or similar dealership management systems.
  • Experience improving shop workflow, dispatch discipline, technician productivity, or repair quality.
What You Get in Return
  • Competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Profit sharing plan.
  • Quarterly incentive opportunities.
  • Paid training and development support.
  • Employee referral bonus.
  • CDL reimbursement support, as applicable for renewals, endorsements, or qualifying requirements.
  • A visible leadership role where your technical skill and judgment will be respected.
