Job description

Nuveen is seeking an experienced Lead Development Manager to join our CLO Portfolio Management Technology team. In this role, you will design, build, test, and support mission‑critical applications that directly serve portfolio managers, traders, and other investment professionals. You will bring deep technical expertise in Python‑based backend development, cloud‑native architecture, and CI/CD practices, combined with a strong understanding of CLO structures, bank loans, or broader fixed‑income securities. This is a hands‑on engineering role with leadership responsibilities, requiring you to guide development best practices, engage directly with senior stakeholders, and translate complex financial workflows into scalable, production‑grade software.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Software Design and Development: Lead the design, development, and delivery of full‑stack applications, primarily backend Python services and RESTful APIs deployed as AWS Lambda functions, containerized workloads, or EC2‑hosted services. Work spans the full development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, and ongoing support, in alignment with SDLC standards.
  • CI/CD and DevOps Ownership: Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, CloudBees, or comparable tools, ensuring reliable delivery across environments. Enforce branching strategies, code review workflows, and release management practices using GitLab and Git, and contribute to infrastructure management using Terraform.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Requirements Translation: Engage directly with senior investment professionals, clarify requirements, surface constraints, and communicate technical trade‑offs in business‑relevant language. Translate CLO portfolio management workflows, bank loan lifecycles, and fixed‑income operational needs into well‑structured software components.
  • Technical Leadership and Code Quality: Serve as a technical anchor, conducting code reviews, establishing development standards, and mentoring developers. Monitor delivered work to ensure it meets functional goals and quality benchmarks, and proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Agile Participation: Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives. Maintain a well‑prioritized product backlog, provide accurate effort estimates, and support on‑time, within‑budget delivery.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation covering architecture decisions, API specifications, data models, and operational runbooks in accordance with SDLC and organizational standards.
  • AI‑Assisted Development: Leverage AI‑assisted development tools such as Amazon Q, GitHub Copilot, or Kiro to accelerate delivery and improve code quality, and encourage adoption of these tools across the team.
Qualifications
  • 5 years required, 7 years preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree mandatory.
  • Physical requirement: sedentary work.
Required Skills
  • 5+ years hands‑on experience in Python development for production environments, including designing and delivering microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience managing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, CloudBees, or comparable tools with Docker and Terraform for containerization and infrastructure as code.
  • 3+ years using GitLab for source control and code review, and Jira for Agile project and issue tracking.
  • Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, or equivalent) and ability to write complex queries, joins, stored procedures, and DDL/DML statements.
  • Deep knowledge of CLO structures, bank loans, and fixed‑income securities within an asset‑management or institutional finance context.
  • Strong communication skills to translate technical concepts to senior investment professionals.
  • Working knowledge of core AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, KMS) and cloud networking fundamentals.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Java as a secondary language.
  • Experience with Apache Airflow on AWS.
  • Experience with portfolio management systems, order management systems, or related asset‑management platforms.
  • 3+ years supporting fixed‑income securities or portfolio management workflows, with understanding of CLOs and structured products.
  • Front‑end development using React or Angular.
  • Additional familiarity with AWS services such as ELB, EKS, Glacier, or other managed services for scalable financial systems.
