Job description

Overview

The National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) provides timely access to global environmental data from satellites and other sources to promote, protect, and enhance the Nation’s economy, security, environment, and quality of life. We communicate our core mission stories through our websites and social media channels, informing the public, stakeholders, and partners about our work to understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans, and coasts. As part of federal policies, including the IDEA Act, NESDIS is modernizing its web presence to improve the Customer Experience (CX) and offer more services and information to diverse audiences.

In the rapidly evolving technological landscape, NESDIS must stay current with digital trends and federal web strategies. This includes mandates to make government information accessible anytime, anywhere, and on any device, while enhancing CX and adopting plain language models.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Select and evaluate technology, plan the continuous integration environment, issue tracking system, version control system, hosting environment, deployment processes, and external API integrations.
  • Architect overall system implementation using diagrams, prototypes, and proof of concepts. Articulate differences between architecture designs and justify selections.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner to develop product roadmaps and define measurable technical success criteria.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and manage complex technology implementations, aiming for simple and elegant solutions.
  • Plan work involving Big Data, technical architecture, SaaS, PaaS, Git, Docker, DevOps, Drupal Multisite, CMS options (traditional, headless, decoupled), and CI/CD.
  • Maintain knowledge of Open Science and Open Data principles.
  • Provide leadership and management expertise to technical staff.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience deploying systems on infrastructure as a service platforms.
  • Ability to share knowledge across multidisciplinary teams and work within agile methodologies.
  • Support setting vision, objectives, and success criteria.
  • Strong customer service skills.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS Cloud.
  • Experience with Acquia hosting platform.
Education/Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Drupal.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in web and application development.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with Agile methodologies.
  • Over 2 years’ experience with SDLC, integrations, and APIs.
Certifications

Triple Certified Drupal Expert preferred.
