Job summary

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager for Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities will oversee the administration and management of grants aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and facilitating the successful implementation of climate-smart projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant management, environmental science, and partnership development. This position is funded through the USDA Climate-Smart Commodities Grant Program administered by Roeslein Alternative Energy and is available through September 2028, with the potential to be extended.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Grant Administration: Manage the full lifecycle of grants, from application to closeout, ensuring all activities comply with grant requirements and organizational policies.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal and external partners, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector entities, to foster effective partnerships and ensure project alignment with climate-smart objectives.
  • Budget Management: Develop and monitor grant budgets, ensuring funds are allocated appropriately and expenditures are tracked accurately.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports to funders, detailing project progress, financial status, and outcomes.
  • Compliance: Ensure all grant activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Capacity Building: Provide training and support to project teams and partners on grant management best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation plans to assess the impact of funded projects and identify areas for improvement.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, providing updates on project status and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an office and controlled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. on a regular basis is required.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant management, with a focus on environmental or agricultural projects. Experience with climate-smart initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of grant management processes, climate-smart agricultural practices, and sustainability principles.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess project performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written are required.
