Job summary

County of San Diego seeks a Supervising Deputy County Counsel to support the Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk. The role includes supervising attorneys and staff, providing advisory and litigation support, and handling AAB-related matters.

The ideal candidate will have California Bar standing, strong research and writing skills, and experience in assessment/tax law, with capacity to manage complex civil cases.

Qualifications

• Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
• Two years of experience as Principal Deputy County Counsel or equivalent in CA.
• Seven years of professional post-bar civil legal experience handling civil matters in public or private sector.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a section or team of attorneys and staff.
• Provide legal advice and litigation support to the ARCC.
• Represent ARCC in Assessment Appeals Board hearings and draft findings.
• Prepare and file writs of administrative mandate as needed.
• Review contracts, advise on policies and records retention.
• Assist with California Public Records Act requests.
• Provide appraiser training as required.
• Be available in-person for AAB hearings on Thursdays.
