Salary Grade: T23. Learn more about the "T" salary structure here: T Salary Structure. Salary considerations include job duties, education, experience, internal equity, department budget, and funding source. Must be able to work nontraditional hours including some shifts from 8 AM - 8 PM during weekdays and some on Saturdays.

Job Summary

The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, the second-oldest dental school in the U.S., is committed to innovation in dental education, research, community service, and healthcare. Founded in 1863, it has over 7,000 alumni worldwide and celebrated its 160th anniversary in 2023.

The school offers diverse educational programs and comprehensive patient services, training dedicated professionals in the field of oral health. The Lead Dental Assistant, located at Broad and Spring Garden Streets, will assist residents, faculty, and students in dental procedures, including preparing for surgeries, assisting during procedures, maintaining operatories, supporting during medical emergencies, taking digital x-rays, managing supplies, troubleshooting equipment, and performing sterilization. Additional duties include front desk support, patient check-in, appointment scheduling, and maintaining patient records.

Required Education and Experience
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Dental Assistant, including experience with various dental procedures.
  • Dental Assisting training and certification from an accredited school.
  • Dental Radiology Certification from Pennsylvania.
  • CPR Certification.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work primarily at our clinic in the Broad and Spring Garden Streets area, with travel to the main dental school as needed.
  • Knowledge of procedures performed in the clinic's specialty areas.
  • Proficiency in chair-side assistance and utilization of dental equipment.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, and patients.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and diagnosis.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to multiple requests.
  • Experience working with potential pathogens and sterilization procedures.
  • Ability to work within legal and ethical boundaries.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability during changing circumstances.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to assist patients in wheelchairs as needed.

This is an on-site position requiring Child Abuse Certification prior to starting.
