Responsibilities
  • Prepares operatory for the guests and is an integral part of the guest experience flow.
  • Prepares guest for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting and seating.
  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to the treatment area; positioning instruments for dentists’ access; suctioning; passing instruments.
  • Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the guest’s mouth.
  • Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
  • Maintains guest appearance and ability to masticate by fabricating temporary restorations; cleaning and polishing removable appliances.
  • Helps dentists manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
  • Documents dental care services by charting in guest records.
  • Traffic control of patient flow and assist the doctors in guiding them to ensure proper flow in the studio.
  • Ensure that all lab cases are ready and pulled for the following day schedule.
  • Assist in the efficient transition of new doctors and/or dental assistants to ensure better acclimation to the office.
  • Ensure proper dental assistant coverage in the office on specialist days and/or to cover vacations or sick days.
Team Work
  • Ensure that the back office runs smoothly.
  • Professional patient hand-offs to create an excellent guest experience.
  • Lead by example and build efficiency in regular patient flow.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Supply Ordering
  • Maintain operation of dental equipment through preventive maintenance, following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting, repairs, and inventories.
  • Maintain emergency kits and first aid supplies, ensuring stock and up-to-date items.
  • Follow maintenance schedules for autoclave and schedule coverage for maintenance.
  • Identify, report and follow up on maintenance issues with dental equipment and handpieces.
Compliance
  • Lead assistant ensures clinical staff comply with OSHA and HIPAA; take corrective action with management support.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures and regulations.
  • Protect guests and team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Conserve dental resources by using equipment and supplies efficiently.
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing publications.
Requirements
  • Must meet state requirements for Dental Assistant in the applicable market.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a larger group practice (preferred).
