Position Description

We are seeking a Lead Database Engineer experienced in mentoring and team collaboration. In this role, you will lead a team of database professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that values innovation and continuous improvement. You will own the sprint process, coordinate with cross-functional teams—including developers, operations, and infrastructure—to ensure project success. Your leadership will support team growth, best practices sharing, and achievement of strategic goals. Responsibilities

1. Lead and mentor a team of Database Engineers responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-availability, high-throughput, data and compute-intensive, critical PostgreSQL database systems supporting a 24x7 SaaS platform.
2. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the team, encouraging regular adoption of new technologies.
3. Participate in and lead project planning and sprint ceremonies in an Agile environment, monitoring activities, identifying blockers, and ensuring timely delivery.
4. Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
5. Partner with technical leaders to ensure systems are supportable and maintainable by both development and operations teams.
6. Provide escalated technical guidance and support across the organization.
7. Maintain on-call support for production systems and perform other duties as required.
8. Ensure compliance with HIPAA security policies within the database platform.
9. Adhere to organizational security and operational policies.
10. Automate maintenance tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible, and manage infrastructure as code with Ansible playbooks; familiarity with Terraform is a plus.
11. Design and develop ETL pipelines using Python is a plus.
12. Maintain and understand various PostgreSQL ecosystem components such as PgBouncer, PgBackrest, HAProxy, and RepMgr.

Minimum Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
2. 10+ years of experience in Database Engineering, Systems Engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles.
3. 3+ years of experience leading and mentoring engineering teams focused on database systems and SaaS platforms.
4. Experience with cloud compute, storage, and containerization solutions, preferably Azure and Kubernetes.
5. Expertise in Agile methodologies, DevOps, Scrum, ITSM, and ITIL principles.
6. Proficiency with PostgreSQL in a Linux environment is advantageous.
