Job summary

Target is seeking a Sr Data Scientist for Supply Chain Optimization to help develop and manage advanced predictive and prescriptive models. You will work with data scientists and engineers to deploy algorithms in production, scale across distributions, and partner with business teams to understand retail processes.

The role demands strong modeling skills, production experience, and collaboration across time zones within a dynamic, startup-like environment at Target HQ Sunnyvale.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or related quantitative field.
• 3+ years leading large-scale optimization, simulation, machine learning and deep learning at scale.
• Extensive experience writing highly performant code and deploying algorithms in a production environment.
• Proficient in Python, R or Java.
• Expert at formulating and implementing mathematical models (MILP, stochastic DP, RL).
• Experience with regression, clustering, PCA, time series forecasting.

Responsibilities

• Review and iterate on optimization and ML algorithms; develop state-of-the-art mathematical models.
• Collaborate with engineers to design and deploy production-ready algorithms at scale.
• Learn about retail business processes and translate into data-driven solutions.
• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes for maintainability and speed.
• Work with business partners to deliver impact and actionable insights.
