Job description

Our client is seeking a Lead Data Scientist with 6+ years of experience to support advanced analytics, AI/ML, and data visualization initiatives in support of federal law enforcement and intelligence missions. In this role, you will design and implement data-driven solutions that enable targeting, lead prioritization, and operational decision-making. You will apply AI/ML, including large language models, along with advanced analytics and programming expertise (e.g., Python) to analyze structured and unstructured data from multiple data sources. This role will be instrumental in analyzing, visualizing, and communicating data insights that support operational and enforcement decisions. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in Coding, Visualization, and Cloud Development, as well as excellent communication and presentation abilities.

YOUR FUTURE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Analytics, Intelligence, and Business Intelligence

  • Partner with stakeholders to define analytical needs and deliver actionable insights through advanced analytics, AI/ML, generative AI, and predictive modeling.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data models and integrate diverse data sources—including law enforcement systems, commercial data, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and social media platforms (via scraping and automated collection tools)—to support comprehensive analysis.

Data Visualization, Reporting, and Communication

  • Design and deliver interactive dashboards and reports (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to provide real-time visibility into trends, targets, and enforcement priorities.
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, supporting decision-making and operational execution.

Data Engineering, Automation, and Cloud Enablement

  • Manage and query relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and consistency.
  • Automate data ingestion, transformation, and processing workflows using tools such as Python, SQL, Power Automate, and AWS services (e.g., S3, EC2, RDS, Lambda).
  • Support and guide cloud modernization efforts, optimizing data architecture within AWS GovCloud environments.

Targeting, Intelligence Analysis, and Investigative Support

  • Design analytical models for lead generation, prioritization, and targeting workflows.
  • Lead entity resolution, link analysis, pattern-of-life analysis, and social media analysis to identify relationships, behaviors, and emerging trends.
  • Produce actionable intelligence products and target packages to support operational and investigative activities.
  • Design and develop an end-to-end AI/ML product that collects, processes, and structures social media data into actionable case files.
  • Architect/Document an approach for creating scalable data pipeline to ingest large volumes of social media content (text, images, video, metadata) from multiple platforms while maintaining reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate to create demos and whitepapers that can be leveraged to market InDev solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in data science, advanced analytics, data visualization, and reporting, with demonstrated ownership of analytical solutions from concept through delivery and operationalization.
  • Experience supporting federal law enforcement, intelligence, or national security missions.
  • Proven ability to lead the design, development, and deployment of data-driven solutions, including AI/ML models, predictive analytics, and mission intelligence products, in production environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python for data manipulation, automation, and development of scalable analytical workflows.
  • Strong expertise in SQL and relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL), with the ability to design efficient data models and support complex data integration needs.
  • Extensive experience developing automated data pipelines and analytics workflows using Python, SQL, and related tools, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging cloud services (e.g., S3, EC2, RDS, Lambda) to design and implement data processing, storage, and analytics solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver impactful data visualizations and dashboards using Tableau and/or Power BI, with a strong emphasis on data storytelling and executive-level communication.
  • Experience with link analysis tools, geospatial analysis, or network visualization
  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with experience guiding cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices, including version control (e.g., Git), testing, and iterative development methodologies.
  • Experience developing prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions, with the ability to rapidly iterate and transition solutions into production-ready systems.

NICE TO HAVES

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Strong knowledge of change management processes and technologies (e.g., GitHub)
  • Experience modeling and analyzing big data in cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing prototypes and proof-of-concept applications or software from end-to-end.
  • Experience with image processing and signals analysis.
  • Knowledge of federal data governance standards, compliance frameworks, and best practices.
