Applied Information Sciences is seeking a Data Engineer (Analytics) to support a federal law enforcement mission. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining data analytics capabilities that turn complex information into actionable insights for decision-making and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather business and technical requirements from stakeholders to support reporting and analytical needs.
- Collect, integrate, and analyze data from multiple structured and unstructured data sources.
- Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations aligned to mission objectives.
- Create and optimize scalable, high-performance SQL queries and analytics solutions.
- Research and combine disparate data sources to deliver meaningful insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve data quality and performance issues.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Respond to evolving mission requirements and deliver solutions within established timelines.
- Support continuous improvement of data engineering, analytics, and reporting processes.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS 6C Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field.
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational database concepts.
- Experience working with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL databases.
- Experience querying and analyzing data using Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Experience integrating and analyzing data from multiple disparate data sources.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC during core business hours.

Contract and Project Context
This position is contract and is contingent upon contract award. Applied Information Sciences is currently pursuing a proposal and is seeking qualified candidates for inclusion in the submission, as well as for future hiring needs on the program once awarded.
The selected candidate will work with stakeholders, data engineers, analysts, and technical teams to transform complex data into actionable insights through reporting, dashboard development, and advanced data analysis. Strong analytical skills and database expertise are required to operate in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.
Additional Skills (NICE TO HAVE)
- Experience with AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, and OpenSearch.
- Experience working with JSON data structures and data transformation techniques.
- Experience developing dashboards and reports using Power BI and/or Tableau.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tools such as Git and Jenkins.
- Knowledge of modern data architectures and data management patterns, including Data Warehouses, Data Marts, Data Lakes, Delta Lakes, Lakehouses, and Data Mesh Architectures.
- Experience supporting government, law enforcement, or other high-security environments.
- Experience with emerging analytics and cloud technologies.
Compensation
The targeted base salary range is $110,000 to $166,000 per year. This range is provided as a guideline, and the final offer will be based on factors including skillset and competencies, level of experience, education, certifications, and location.
