Job summary

NextGear Capital in Carmel, IN, is hiring a Manager, Data Engineering to lead a cross‑functional team responsible for data pipelines, transformation platforms, and analytics infrastructure powering floor plan lending operations.

You will guide the team through AI‑assisted, spec‑driven development, ensure architectural guardrails, and collaborate with product managers and platform teams to deliver on the roadmap.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 6+ years of experience; alternative combos accepted.
• 1+ year of management or lead experience.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants as a primary development tool.
• Experience with spec-driven or design-doc workflows (RFC/ADR etc.).
• Experience reviewing AI-generated code for quality, security and architectural compliance.
• Experience with CI/CD, code review discipline, test strategy, and observability.
• Willingness to rotate on-call outside business hours.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing, cross-functional data engineering team, mentoring engineers and establishing growth paths into AI-augmented practices.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle for data pipelines, transformations, and analytics services in Azure, AWS, and Snowflake.
• Ensure delivery of secure, well-tested, scalable data systems aligned to the architecture and domain standards.
• Champion spec-driven development workflows and collaborate on Change Specs before code generation and merge.
• Maintain component constitutions and context packs to guide AI-assisted code generation.
• Partner with product managers, architects, and platform teams to deliver against the roadmap and align with shared standards.
• Drive experimentation with AI coding workflows and surface patterns to the organization.
