Job summary

Sporting Kansas City is seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop and maintain a scalable data infrastructure that delivers clean, reliable data for analysis and decision‑making across the Club. You will work with coaches and analysts to build ETL/ELT pipelines, govern data, and productionize models, with cloud data platforms and APIs to create a single source of truth.

This role requires strong SQL and Python, experience with cloud data services, and excellent communication to translate

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science or related STEM subject.
• Significant experience in a Data Engineering or similar role.
• Proven experience designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines, data models and database schemas.
• Robust experience using both SQL and Python for data cleaning, engineering, transformation and automation workflows.
• Experience with modern cloud-based data infrastructure (Azure, AWS or GCP).
• Experience implementing data governance and version control best practices.
• Creative problem solver with a proactive learning attitude.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts into practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with coaches, analysts, scouts, performance coaches and other key stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into scalable solutions.
• Develop strong relationships with the wider Data and Analytics team, promoting best practices in data management, governance and accessibility.
• Ensure collaboration with internal and external partners to ensure data integration, adoption and deployment.
• Lead the design, development and maintenance of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for tools, platforms and reports to aid decision-making.
• Ensure reliable data collection, validation, monitoring, testing, transformation and delivery processes.
• Lead high-quality standards for data storage, version control, schema documentation and governance.
• Collaborate with the IT team to uphold data protection and compliance policies.
• Continuously evaluate and improve workflows, infrastructure and practices for reliability.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to stay current with engineering best practices.
