Lead Data Engineer - Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX)

As a Lead Data Engineer at Capital One, you will join an interdisciplinary team that designs, develops, tests, and supports full‑stack technical solutions. The role focuses on data‑centric methodologies, cloud‑based data warehousing, and advanced analytics to enable powerful customer experiences.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions using full‑stack development tools and technologies.
• Work with developers experienced in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full‑stack systems.
• Utilize programming languages such as Java, Scala, and Python alongside open‑source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, and cloud data warehousing services including Redshift and Snowflake.
• Stay abreast of technology trends, experiment with emerging tools, and mentor colleagues within internal and external communities.
• Partner with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud‑based solutions that empower millions of Americans with financial empowerment.
• Perform unit tests and conduct peer reviews to ensure code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and tuned for performance.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• At least 4 years of experience in application development (intership experience does not apply).
• At least 2 years of experience in big‑data technologies.
• At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud).

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in application development, including Python, SQL, Scala, or Java.
• 4+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud).
• 4+ years of experience with distributed data/computing tools such as MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL.
• 4+ years of experience in real‑time data and streaming applications.
• 4+ years of experience with NoSQL implementations (MongoDB, Cassandra).
• 4+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake).
• 4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux, including basic commands and shell scripting.
• 2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices.
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity beyond basic code completion.

Compensation

The minimum and maximum full‑time annual salaries for this role are listed below. For McLean, VA the range is $197,300 - $225,100. Other locations will reflect the applicable pay range. Payments may include performance‑based incentive compensation, such as cash bonuses or long‑term incentives.
