Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Lead Data Engineer for the Intelligent Foundations & Experiences group. The role focuses on real-time data, cloud-based solutions, and full stack data engineering across agile teams in order to empower millions of Capital One customers with powerful, secure data-driven experiences.

The position requires extensive experience in Java/Scala/Python, big data tools, and cloud platforms, with a strong emphasis on performance, scalability, and mentorship within the engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 4+ years in application development (internship excluded).
• 2+ years in big data technologies.
• 1+ year cloud experience (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
• 7+ years in application development including Python, SQL, Scala or Java.
• 4+ years in public cloud experience (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
• 4+ years in distributed data tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark).
• 4+ years in real-time data and streaming applications.
• 4+ years in NoSQL (Mongo, Cassandra).
• 4+ years in data warehousing (Redshift or Snowflake).
• 4+ years UNIX/Linux and shell scripting.
• 2+ years Agile engineering practices.
• Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions.
• Work with developers experienced in ML, distributed microservices, and full stack systems.
• Utilize Java, Scala, Python and SQL/NoSQL databases plus cloud data warehousing like Redshift and Snowflake.
• Mentor other engineering team members and stay current with tech trends.
• Partner with product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions for millions of users.
• Perform unit testing and code reviews for performance-tuned implementations.

Lead Data Engineer (Intelligent Foundations and Experiences)

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions in full-stack development tools and technologies
• Work with a team of developers with deep experience in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full stack systems
• Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python and Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases and Cloud based data warehousing services such as Redshift and Snowflake
• Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community
• Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment
• Perform unit tests and conduct reviews with other team members to make sure your code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and effectively tuned for performance

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 4 years of experience in application development (Internship experience does not apply)
• At least 2 years of experience in big data technologies
• At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in application development including Python, SQL, Scala, or Java
• 4+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
• 4+ years experience with Distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL)
• 4+ year experience working on real-time data and streaming applications
• 4+ years of experience with NoSQL implementation (Mongo, Cassandra)
• 4+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake)
• 4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting
• 2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion
