Job description

The Ideal Candidate

The Lead Data Engineer position will help to lead the charge on modernizing Genesco's data engineering capabilities by aligning disparate data systems with business and IT goals. This position will require strong analytical/technical skills and the ability to efficiently combine data from different sources with a keen eye toward data governance, quality and scalability. This position will work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders to solve complex business problems with data.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Data Architecture and Infrastructure:
  • Design, build, and maintain robust, extensible data systems and pipelines. This includes designing and implementing data lakes, data warehouses, and other data storage solutions.
• Data Integration and ETL:
  • Develop and maintain data integration processes, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, to move data from various sources into a central repository.
• Data Quality and Integrity:
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness through data quality checks and validation processes.
• Data Governance:
  • Collaborate with Data Analytics, Engineering and IT teams to drive best practices and maintain data integrity.
• Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work with data analysts, scientists, application owners, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure data-driven decision-making.
• Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay up to date with the latest data engineering technologies and best practices and recommend improvements to existing systems and processes.

Experience and Skills You'll Need to Have

• 7+ years of experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, SQL), data modeling, and database management systems.
• Proven experience in a leadership role.
• Hands-on experience with big data technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Hive, and cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with data warehousing and ETL tools/frameworks.
• Solid understanding of data governance principles and best practices for maintaining data quality and integrity.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
• Demonstrated ability to lead the development, optimization, and implementation of advanced data pipelines and applications.
