Mondrian Alpha is seeking a Lead Data Engineer for their global multi-strategy firm based in New York. This role involves owning the data platform from architecture to execution, with a focus on modern cloud-native solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong skills in Python and SQL, along with experience in distributed systems. Responsibilities include defining engineering standards and driving technical direction in collaboration with senior stakeholders. The position offers a compensation package up to $600k TC.
Lead Data Engineer – Front Office | Global Multi-Strategy Firm | Up to $600k TC
My client is a global multi-strategy firm operating across public and private markets. The data platform sits at the centre of capital allocation, risk, and PnL. Golden-source datasets, security master, pricing, positions: if something's wrong, the front office knows immediately. That proximity is the point.
They're hiring a Lead Data Engineer to own the platform end-to-end. Architecture, roadmap, engineering standards, and a small high-calibre team. You'll report directly to the Head of Data and stay hands-on while setting technical direction across the firm.
The platform spans Snowflake, dbt, Spark, and Databricks/EMR. The work ranges from low-latency pipelines powering real-time PnL and risk, to the governance and lineage infrastructure that makes the data trustworthy. You'll partner directly with PMs, quants, and risk to translate what they actually need into systems that hold up in production.
The interesting constraint: the firm is moving toward a modern cloud-native architecture and wants someone who can drive that evolution, not just maintain what exists. You'll define the operating model, not inherit one.
Strong Python and SQL, deep distributed systems experience, and a track record of owning production platforms rather than just designing them. Experience in financial markets is a plus, but the firm is hiring for engineering depth and ownership instinct first.
Comp is up to $600k TC. Roles with this scope, this reporting line, and this level of front office visibility rarely surface. Worth a conversation if you're looking to own something that matters.
