Job summary

Ascendion is seeking a seasoned Data Engineer in Seattle to design, build, and optimize scalable ETL pipelines on an AWS data stack. You will drive data workflows with MWAA, craft efficient SQL/Python/PySpark transformations, and manage Redshift/S3 storage with governance and security in mind.

Lead the data engineering effort, mentor junior teammates, and collaborate with analytics to deliver reliable BI using QuickSight/Tableau.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or similar roles.
• Experience working in a lead role.
• Expertise in AWS data technologies, including AWS Glue, Redshift, S3, and Lake Formation.
• Strong programming skills in SQL, Python, and PySpark.
• Hands‑on experience with data pipeline orchestration using Managed Airflow (MWAA).
• Knowledge of data modeling, warehousing concepts, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with AWS CDK and AWS Build Tools for infrastructure automation.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Experience working in Agile or DevOps environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize scalable ETL pipelines using AWS Glue.
• Develop and manage data workflows and orchestration using MWAA.
• Write and optimize SQL and Python/PySpark scripts for data transformation and processing.
• Architect and maintain data storage solutions using AWS Redshift and S3.
• Implement and manage data cataloging, governance, and security using AWS Glue and Lake Formation.
• Collaborate with analytics teams to support reporting and visualization using QuickSight and Tableau.
• Automate infrastructure deployment using AWS CDK and AWS Build Tools.
• Ensure high data quality, performance, and reliability across data processes.
• Drive best practices for data engineering, including CI/CD, monitoring, and documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.
