State Farm (Bloomington, IL) seeks a Lead Data Engineer to help migrate, build, and service Analytics environments with a particular concentration on cloud based environments as well as other emerging technologies and capabilities. Specific duties include: apply skills, tools, security processes, applications, environments and programming language(s) to complete complex assignments; apply advanced engineering practices to design data solutions using industry-adopted languages and frameworks; diagnose and resolve complex problems/issues; maintain advanced understanding in software engineering topics, including classes, functions, security, containers, version control, CI/CD, and unit tests; maintain advanced understanding in programming, and database and data storage functionality and apply that understanding to build reusable data solutions; maintain advanced understanding in compute environments, including but not limited to Linux, Public Cloud, and containers; maintain advanced understanding in data engineering topics, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), data integration, reusable data pipelines, data management, data analytics, data visualization, and data science; maintain advanced business domain expertise for data sources and applies in recommendations, designs, and execution of data solutions; apply advanced understanding regarding data and technology trends/changes, best practices, and processes to complete assignments and influence the direction of product solutions; apply advanced understanding of product design, data design and movement and test to ensure quality outcomes; leverage an advanced understanding of the State Farm organizational structure to navigate the organization; provide mentorship, technical guidance, training, and may delegate work to others; possibly take on several simultaneous work stories or focus on a single complex story; understand, support, and help define the vision and direction for the product development; and possibly have membership and engage with technical groups in the organization; leverage inner source best practices to encourage code discoverability and collaboration across the enterprise. Option for hybrid work environment, allowing work from home with required travel to local office at least once per quarter. Required to live within 180 miles of local office and within the United States.
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Information Systems Security, or a closely related field of study, plus 5 years of experience in the job offered, or as a Software Developer, Associate – Projects, or similar technical architectural position. Specific experience must include: gaining enterprise data domain knowledge, including rating, underwriting, and/or claims, rapidly; working with programming languages, including Java, Python, Spark, Terraform, Angular 7, React JS, JavaScript, and jQuery; working with AWS services, including (AWS Glue, Lambda, SQS, SNS, Cloud Watch, S3, Event Bridge, RDS, EC2); working with various databases, including AWS Redshift, S3, AWS DynamoDB, DB2, Postgres, Oracle, MS SQL, and MongoDB; developing solutions on AWS Redshift and S3; working with version control, including GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, IDE like PyCharm, STS, eclipse, vs code); learning and adopting new technologies and languages; and using critical thinking skills to challenge current thinking and applying the right technology to solve problems. Option for hybrid work environment, allowing work from home with required travel to local office at least once per quarter. Required to live within 180 miles of local office and within the United States. Salary: $150,592/yr.
