Job summary

Google is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to be the primary on‑site authority for large‑scale thermal management. You will bridge high‑level thermal designs with site execution, ensuring reliability and efficiency in cooling systems for high‑availability environments.

You will collaborate with mechanical contractors, support design during construction, and drive engineering solutions to maintain momentum and compliance with codes and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of mechanical engineering experience supporting construction for industrial or mission-critical facilities.
• Experience with chilled water plants, hydronic balancing, and cooling topologies (e.g., cooling towers, chillers, CRAHs).
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Act as the definitive technical resource for mechanical contractors and Engineer‑on‑Record (EORs), supporting mechanical system design and resolving ambiguities to maintain construction momentum.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams for resolution of complex issues, design intent, and changes to the design during construction.
• Lead the field‑side RFI process, identifying spatial or mechanical conflicts and providing immediate engineering solutions to avoid rework.
• Perform periodic site walk‑throughs to verify installations align with engineered specs, focusing on testing, weld inspection, insulation, and equipment placement.
• Ensure evaporative and non‑evaporative thermal systems meet project standards, codes, and environmental regs.
