The Lead Custodian will align his/her scope of work with Healthy Kids Mission, while incorporating Healthy Kids Core Values as the guiding principle for all work activities.

Summary: Healthy Kids is looking for an experienced, skilled, detail-oriented, self-starter to occupy the position of Lead Custodian for the company. The position is responsible for the weekly cleaning and maintenance of our Daycare offices in New Windsor, NY on Tuesday and Thursday. Occasional work at other centers in the area may be assigned on an as-needed basis. Further, this position is responsible for reporting any issues with the building that are noticeable in off hours, keeping stock of cleaning supplies, restocking materials, and taking out trash during every shift. This position is accountable for ensuring the cleanliness and function of our facilities and upholding the standard expected by our tenants here at Healthy Kids Programs.

Reports To: Director of Buildings, Grounds, Maintenance

Job Type: Part-Time

Hourly Rate: $20.00 per hour

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Cleaning requirements of office building facilities are as follows:

  • Keeping Stock of cleaning supplies and submitting supply requests as needed to maintain stock.
  • Sweeping and mopping all tiled floors in the three offices we occupy 3 times a week.
  • Vacuuming all carpet of the office areas as well as all common area floors in the building(hallways, bathrooms, etc.).
  • Taking out the trash in each office every night.
  • Cleaning all bathrooms in the building.
  • Wiping down all hard surfaces.
  • Wiping door handles.
  • Wiping down windowsills, doorjambs, vents, and other hard to reach and often forgotten areas on a rotating schedule once every two weeks.
  • Cleaning of windows as needed on an occasional basis.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical cleaners and their applications.
  • Excellent organizational and follow up skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Eye for detail.
  • Professional presentation and attitude.
  • Ability to maintain focus while working individually.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least 3 years of cleaning experience, preferably 2 or more.
  • An employment history going back at least 5 years.

Language Ability

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff members including program staff.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Be very active, moving carpets, filling mop buckets, and occasionally moving furniture.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
